Course Description - This course will focus on deep study of various geometric concepts in a variety of settings. For example, the concept of "straightness" will be examined on the plane, the sphere, the cone, and hyperbolic geometry. Congruence theorems will be examined in different settings. Interesting phenomena on the sphere will be examined.
Purposes of the Course 1. To provide deeper understanding of basic geometric concepts for high school teachers. 2. To help students gain experience at geometric experimentation. 3. To introduce the students to some new geometric ideas.
Textbook - "Experiencing Geometry" by David W. Henderson, Prentice Hall Pub. Company.
